A Coat for a French Bulldog Is Not Just a Larger Size

I just love French Bulldogs!

They always seem to be smiling, and those big, expressive eyes look so full of love. There's something incredibly endearing about them.

When I first started studying coat designs for French Bulldogs, Pugs and Boston Terriers, I knew I wanted to create something that would accentuate their distinctive features rather than hide them.

After all, these dogs have beautiful, muscular bodies and a rather proud way of carrying themselves when they walk.

So why hide all that character beneath an oversized sweater or a shapeless coat?

Now, taste is personal, and there's certainly no arguing about that. But I've always felt that these breeds deserve clothing that complements their natural proportions rather than disguising them beneath unnecessary volumes of fabric.

And no, I'm certainly not suggesting that they should wear tight-fitting clothes.

Quite the opposite.

As always, comfort and freedom of movement come first and foremost at DVENTOTTO®.

So I started studying these breeds more closely.

I spent time with friends' dogs, playing with them, observing how they walked, how they moved, how they sat and how their bodies behaved in different positions.

And, of course, there was plenty of measuring involved!

What became increasingly clear was that designing a coat for these breeds wasn't simply a matter of taking an existing pattern and making it larger.

Their broad chests, muscular shoulders, strong necks and compact bodies required a different approach altogether.

A coat could be the correct size on paper and still be completely wrong for the dog wearing it.

And that's when I knew exactly what I wanted to create.

A timeless classic.

A coat with a proper collar, an elegant martingale detail across the back and snap buttons running down the front.

Something that would complement their strong silhouettes without restricting their movement.

For the lining, I chose a warm orange faux fur, soft and cosy for those icy morning walks.

And for the outer shell, I wanted shades of green. That's how I arrived at the camouflage pattern, which I felt worked beautifully with the coat's structured design.

Every detail had its purpose, but the overall look had to remain effortless.

And then came the name.

ERA.

Named in honour of one of the dogs who patiently spent so much time with me while I was studying, observing, measuring and developing the design.

Era became the inspiration behind an entire collection dedicated to French Bulldogs and breeds with similar body proportions.

And the very first coat in that collection?

Kamo.

Named after its distinctive camouflage fabric.

Because behind every DVENTOTTO® collection, there's a story. And behind the ERA Collection, there's a very special dog.
